My heart hammered against my ribs as I nervously pushed open the heavy oak door of the prestigious production house. Glancing out at the pouring rain, I sighed in relief - I had finally arrived, despite the inclement weather. Today was the day I would finally meet him, the renowned filmmaker, Yashveer Arora. I couldn't believe it was actually happening.
A young woman with a clipboard approached me briskly. "Here for an audition? Head to the first floor. You're already late, and sir is not amused."
Wait, what audition?
"Wait, but-" I began, but she had already turned away, her heels clicking impatiently on the polished marble floor. How insensitive!
Nevertheless, I ascended the grand staircase, the anticipation a nervous flutter in my stomach. On the first floor, a group of young women were exiting a small room, their faces a mixture of disappointment and relief.
"You, yes you, the latecomer!" A gruff voice barked.
"Why are you even here? You're wasting everyone's time. Go inside, sir is already losing his patience." The casting director, a man with a face like thunder, glared at me. What was wrong with these people? And who was this 'sir' they kept referring to?
"Go!" he repeated, his voice rising. I simply nodded and slipped into the audition room, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Wait, I didn't know anything about acting. How was I supposed to perform in an audition? I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me. This was a complete disaster.
"May I come in?" I finally managed to ask, my voice trembling slightly. A man inside gestured for me to enter. "Come in, come in."
I stepped into the room, the bright lights momentarily blinding me. They directed me to stand in the center, facing a row of intimidating cameras and a sea of unfamiliar faces.
"What do you know?" the casting director barked, his eyes narrowed. I stood frozen, my mind a blank canvas.
Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the tension. "Rakesh, listen..." It was him. His voice, deep and resonant, sent shivers down my spine. That man walked towards him and nodded at him after he said something. I frowned. Why am I here? I'm not here for audition.
I just wanted to meet him.
"Look we don't have much time. I'd just tell you some points and you'd act accordingly to that" he said and I nodded. I nodded? Why? I know something is gonna happen. A disaster. Because if I act today. Actors will just resign and leave the country.
I wanted to slap myself internally for being this introvert that I couldn't even tell the purpose why I'm here.
"So... imagine that you're deeply in love with someone and you've got 5 mins to confess your feelings but in a unique way, how would you do it?" He said and I thought for a second.
Closing my eyes for some minutes I tried to think about it when only one face flashed infront of me. Him. His smile, his charm, his voice, his eyes everything. Taking a deep breath I opened my eyes.
"I never thought I would fall for you, especially when I first saw you, I thought we would never have anything between us. But see how things have changed today. I've known you for years, but now it's just different. You're not just someone I know. You're the one I dream about my future with. You're the one who made every other guy unattractive to me. You're the guy who made me restless. You're the guy who wasn't supposed to... but still turned my whole world upside down. I won't force you to love me back. Never. Because I've always been unworthy of everything and never been loved back by anyone I loved. But I will always admire you. Be it from a distance, I will wish the best for you. Because I have found the source of my happiness now... and it's you." My voice broke in the end. I felt like I opened and heart. Tears formed in my eyes due to overwhelming of emotions.
I paused, my voice catching. "Thank you," I whispered, the words barely audible.
A stunned silence filled the room. Then, a low murmur broke through, followed by a ripple of applause.
"Excellent shot" I heard that voice again and this time It made my heart full. The man emerged from behind the cameras, his face a mixture of surprise and admiration, he tilted his head so that I could see him.
"What's your name?" He asked and a red hue crept on my cheeks. It's him. Yes it's him. He talked to me? No he literally complimented me.
He walked towards me.
"Varsha" my cheeks flushing crimson.
He smiled, a slow, captivating smile that lit up his entire face. "Varsha," he repeated, savoring the sound. "I think we need to talk."
And in that moment, I knew my life was about to change forever.
♬ YASHVEER POV
My head throbbed with each excruciating audition. Where was the talent? In my last ten years of filmmaking, I had never encountered such a dearth of talent. I needed a girl, an ordinary girl with extraordinary potential. A fresh face for this movie, not just any face, but a unique talent. But these girls... they were simply appalling.
As the last contestant flounced out of the room, I closed my eyes, massaging my temples to alleviate the throbbing pain. Rakesh, my ever-faithful assistant, approached me. "Sir, there's one more girl left."
"Again?" To be honest, I was on the verge of abandoning the entire project and heading home. But patience, Yash, I reminded myself, taking a deep breath. "Let her in," I instructed.
The girl entered, and the moment my eyes met hers, I was transfixed. She was breathtakingly beautiful, the kind of ethereal beauty that I had been searching for.
But she looked incredibly nervous, her hantrembling slightly.
I glanced at the clock. Time was running out. I had no idea what her acting skills were like, whether they were worse than the previous disasters.
"Rakesh, listen..." I summoned my assistant, determined to expedite the process. I outlined the scenario, providing specific instructions and emphasizing the need for spontaneity.
Rakesh conveyed the instructions to the girl. She stood silent for a moment, her eyes closed, as if gathering her thoughts. Then, she began to speak. And the moment her voice filled the room, it was like a melody, sweet and ethereal, piercing through the tension.
Her performance was captivating. Raw, honest, and utterly mesmerizing. She poured her heart and soul into the scene, her emotions palpable. When she finished, I was speechless.
"Excellent shot!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with genuine admiration.
She looked at me, her eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and trepidation.
"What's your name?" I asked, walking towards her. A blush crept up her neck, staining her cheeks a delicate pink.
"Varsha," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Varsha," I repeated, savoring the sound. "I think we need to talk."
She stared at me, her eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and anticipation. And in that moment, I knew this was just the beginning.
